Profile
Lawrence is a highly experienced public health lecturer with an understanding of global contemporary public health challenges. A fellow of the British Higher Education Academy and the Royal Society for public health, Lawrence has led the development of public health professional courses at masters and doctoral levels to respond to the global, contemporary public health workforce needs. Lawrence’s contribution to global public health has been recognised internationally with an award of Honorary Associate Professor. He has been involved in many projects worth over £8,210,850. He has led several international
inter-institutional partnerships between Teesside University and several top-ranking institutions in Uganda and Nigeria (e.g., Makerere University, University of Ibadan, etc.).
Lawrence has published in a range of peer-reviewed journals and has supervised doctoral projects to completion in a range of public health specific subject areas. He is guest editor of the special issue entitled “Oral Health in the Global South” in Oral (MDPI)—an international medical and health journal in the field of oral health and dentistry. His research interest includes multimorbidity, health systems strengthening, international public health policy, disease surveillance and monitoring, emergency preparedness, digital health interventions, dental public health and non-communicable diseases epidemiology. He is currently the programme Director of the Doctorate in Public Health course at the School of Health and Life Sciences, Teesside University.
